Riding Out the Storm: How a Tornado Taught Me Lessons in Adaptability, Preparedness, and Resilience
I recently moved into a new home on 12 acres, only to be met with a severe storm and tornadoes just days later. Ironically, I thought I had left tornadoes behind when I moved from Kansas to Rhode Island—clearly, we're not in Kansas anymore! This experience has offered powerful insights that I apply to my work at Indermaur Media.
Adaptability and Resilience: Navigating the chaos of a natural disaster reinforced the need for adaptability in my business. Every media production project has challenges, and I approach each with flexibility and robust problem-solving skills.
Preparedness: The storm underscored the importance of preparation. Just as I needed a plan for power outages and water loss at home, I ensured that my media productions had contingency plans in place to handle any unexpected issues during photography or video production.
Community and Support: This experience highlighted the value of community. I contacted friends for possible assistance to cut trees and anything else we may need. Building solid relationships with clients and collaborators creates a network that can withstand challenges for brand storytelling. My media teams are personable, flexible, passionate, and committed to delivering the best possible results.
Perspective and Storytelling: Facing life's unpredictability has deepened my understanding of the power of storytelling. I strive to capture genuine, impactful stories that resonate more deeply with audiences.
These lessons have contributed to my personal growth and enhanced my professional approach, making me more resilient, prepared, and connected in my work. When approaching a visual content project, whether corporate photography or professional video, I always look at the big picture and am ready for unexpected changes in creative media solutions.
After three days, power and water were restored. I was relieved to see that, despite 30+ large fallen trees, our neighborhood had sustained minimal damage.
